Meet Our Physician
Hello From Dr. Al Harash
Dr. Al Harash was born in Damascus, Syria. It is here he attended Damascus University and graduated with Honors. Soon after, Dr. Al Harash began his Internal Medicine residency in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and finished in 2014. During this time he was awarded both the best intern and ambulatory resident of the year. Between 2014 and 2018, he worked as a hospitalist in Indiana and was appointed as Chair of Medicine at Clark Memorial Hospital. Dr. Al Harash returned to Pittsburgh to complete his Rheumatology fellowship from 2018 to 2020. He’s working part time as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Loma Linda University, treating complex rheumatic conditions. Dr. Al Harash was awarded as the best teacher of the year within the Division of Rheumatology. He is ABIM certified in Rheumatology and Internal Medicine and USSONAR certified in joints and soft tissue ultrasound. Highly interested in Autoinflammatory diseases and gout, he has published research articles for gout as well as vasculitis, scleroderma, and myositis. In his spare time, Dr. Al Harash highly enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, going to the gym, reading, and listening to classical music.

Autoimmune Arthritis
A type of arthritis where the body’s immune system attacks normal cells within the lining of joints such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus and Psoriatic Arthritis.
Systemic Autoimmune Diseases
Systemic autoimmune diseases are clinically diverse cluster of disorders. They share in common inappropriate targeting of normal tissues by immune mechanisms leading to self-injury. They all share the potential to cause disease in multiple organ systems. Examples are Lupus are Sjogren’s syndrome

Autoinflammatory Disease
A group of rare conditions usually manifest with recurrent fever, autoinflammatory diseases are the result of mutations in genes that are involved in regulating the innate immune system. Examples are Familial Mediterranean Fever and Adult Onset Still’s Disease
Crystalline Arthritis
An inflammatory joint condition caused by the buildup of crystals such as uric acid and calcium within the joints, such as Gout and Pseudogout.
Bone Density Disorders
Disorders or abnormalities affecting the structural integrity of the bone due to malfunction in bone metabolism such as Osteoporosis and Osteopenia.
Vasculitis
An autoimmune condition that causes inflammation of the blood vessels which can lead to organ damage, such as ANCA-associated vasculitis.
Connective Tissue Disease (CTD)
Connective tissue disease refers to a group of disorders involving the protein-rich tissue that supports organs and other parts of the body. These disorders often involve the joints, muscles, and skin. There are more than 200 disorders that affect the connective tissue. Examples are Lupus, Scleroderma, and Myositis.
